Why are employers allowed to look at your personal credit score when they interview you?

Actually, many states are starting to implement laws to make this practice illegal except for individuals pursuing jobs in the financial industry, or where the person will be directly responsible for large sums of money.

However, some states do allow employers to perform credit checks. Employers argue that if a person is bad at handling his or her own finances that he or she may also be an irresponsible employee. I personally find this argument ridiculous.

There are many reasons why a person may have a bad credit score, and they are not always because the person was reckless with their finances.
