Scottrade is without a doubt the best of the popular mainstream online brokers. This is because they offer the best trading platform as well as the best commission rates of any of the more heavily advertised online brokers.
Zecco is a more recent addition into the world of online discount brokers. They are known for giving their customers, who have a balance in their brokerage account of $2,500, 10 commission free trades a month. This can save semi-active traders a lot of money in commission cost over the course of a year. Of course because they offer free trades they do not offer all the bells and whistles the other brokers offer. If your balance falls below $2,500 then they charge $4.50 per trade.
