Alternatives To Cable TV

alternatives to cable tv

Are you looking to save a lot of money by cutting your ties with your local cable or satellite provider without giving up great entertainment?

Well you may be suprised how easy it is to actually cut the cable cord once and for all without giving much up. However, you won't find these secrets in the mainstream media.

This is because cable and satellite providers know that once internet streaming becomes more mainstream their business models will be in trouble.

We have looked into various alternatives to cable tv, and have found the following 3 step method to be the best bang for your buck.

Step 1: OTA Digital Channels

Get all of your local HD digital television stations using an OTA (over-the-air) antenna. You will be able to get about 15-20 HD quality local digital channels for free using this method depending on your location.

After reviewing a variety of antennas, we recommend the following indoor/outdoor antenna for the best results: RCA Compact Outdoor Yagi HDTV Antenna

Step 2: Internet Connection

In order to get the channels that are similar to what you receive from your local cable or satellite provider you will need two things:

(1.) A DSL or Cable Broadband internet connection with a minimun of 1.5 mbps speed.

(2.) Either a Smart TV which is internet ready or a Roku box, which turns any regular TV into a Smart TV. This will allow you to stream programming from the internet directly to your TV.

Step 3: Netflix and Hulu Plus

Sign up for Netflix and/or Hulu Plus online streaming to your TV. This will give you access to thousands of TV shows and movies streamed directly to your television through either your Roku or Smart TV.
